Melanie takes centre stage and gives you more insight into her background, her life at IRIS and what she enjoys getting up to in her spare time…
What do you do and how long have you worked at IRIS?
‘‘I’m responsible for building relationships with our client base to ensure invoices are paid and we keep debt to a minimum’’
What’s your background?
‘‘I started in Billing and Credit Control for 7 years in the courier sector. I went on to manufacturing within stage lighting/entertainment then was an Accounts Assistant in Business Solutions for 5 years.’’
What’s the best thing about working at IRIS?
“Being part of a really supportive team, but also have all the necessary tools and trust from colleagues to work independently. Also the amazing products, and beautiful world of hospitality.”
What sets IRIS apart from other companies?
‘‘The receptiveness to change. If a process or system isn’t working, we develop a better way of doing it. The people using the systems are the experts as to what is needed. There’s no “that’s the way it’s always been done” here.’’
What is your most significant achievement to date – personal or professional?
“Finally coming 1st place in 100, 200 and 400 metres when I represented Queens Park Harriers Athletics Club and also getting in the local newspaper.”
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
“A sweet cup of tea made by my hubby”
What did you want to do when you were growing up?
‘‘I wanted to be a writer or journalist.’’
What inspires you about working in hospitality?
‘‘The communication skills it builds and the unexpected cases that come with it and I love the whole nature of the industry.’’
What is your favourite hobby?
‘‘Cooking, dancing, swimming, jogging and shopping!!’’
What is your guilty pleasure?
“Ferrero Rocher, hazelnuts and Prosecco.”
When was the last time you laughed so hard you cried?
“Christmas dinner 2021!”
What advice would you give anyone looking to join IRIS?
‘‘Approach the company with open arms and don’t be afraid to ask for help!’’
