Meet Samuel
Introducing…. Samuel Hilditch, our Junior Project Manager.
Get to know Samuel, his background, life at IRIS and what he enjoys getting up to in his spare time.
What do you do and how long have you worked at IRIS?
‘‘I help new hotel customers get everything organised so that we can get them live on our App to simplify and enhance their guests’ experience.’’
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
‘‘An Americano, no milk and two sugars.’’
What do you love about working at IRIS?
‘‘I love being part of a team and helping everyone meet their objectives so that everything runs as smoothly as possible.’’
What’s your background?
‘‘My background is in Teaching, I taught English abroad after finishing University for up to four years and then moved into Content work as a Spanish/Catalan to English translator.’’
What is one of the most interesting tasks/projects you’ve worked on at IRIS?
‘‘When I started, I was asked to duplicate a Mandarin Oriental site from the Global Server to the Chinese Server. I found this interesting because I got to experience the IRIS System from the ground up.’’
What did you want to do when you were growing up?
‘‘I wanted to be an explorer, somebody like Edmund Hillary or James Cook.’’
What sets IRIS [or your department] apart from other companies?
‘‘I think IRIS’s employees dedicate much of their time to ensuring clients get the most out of what IRIS offers.’’
What is your favourite hobby?
‘‘Probably hiking in the mountains.’’
If you could switch jobs with someone, who would it be?
‘‘David Attenborough.’’
What inspires you about working in hospitality?
‘‘I like how we communicate with teams of people from hotels all over the world and we share the exact same end goal; so fundamentally we become part of the same team working together.’’
What’s your biggest niggle/ bug-bear?
‘‘People who don’t indicate when driving.’’
What is your guilty pleasure?
‘‘Love Island, it’s hilarious.’’
What is your biggest achievement to date – personal or professional?
‘‘Learning Spanish from 0 to degree level in my spare time when I moved to Barcelona.’’
What puts a smile on your face/makes you happy?
‘‘Videos of people saving animals, especially elephants.’’
What’s the best thing about working at IRIS?
‘‘The trust other team members have in me to be able to work independently on tasks and projects.’’
What advice would you give anyone looking to join IRIS?
‘‘Don’t worry if you don’t understand GXP [IRIS’s Guest Experience Platform] and all the different forms at first, it will probably take a while, I am still learning now.’’
